Every Monday we will take a spelling pre-test and review the words for the week. Every Friday we will take the graded test. Each word is worth a 1 point for a total of 20 points (20 words). The tests are weighted heavier in the gradebook.
There are 5 challenge words that are OPTIONAL. Students can choose to do these words on the Friday spelling test or not, it only impacts their grade positively (+1pt).
If they get a word correct they get the point, if they get it wrong nothing happens.
If it is a short week (no school Friday) all work is due Thursday. We will have a spelling list every week unless there are less than 4 days of school.
Every week students will take their 20 words and build a creative list of their own with the week's spelling words. They have a menu of 12 items to choose how to make their list; they only choose 1 activity for all 20 words. This will be turned in by Friday. I ask them not to choose the same option back to back weeks.
Spelling Menus provide extended practice with the words as well as a choice activity for the student to complete the work. Many of the options encourage use of other skills students may value.
